What is Invisalign®?
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment system that uses removable, plastic mouthpieces to improve the position of your teeth and jaw so you can smile with confidence. It’s more discreet than traditional metal braces and more comfortable, too. Plus, because you can take the aligners out, you can continue eating your favorite snacks and foods.
Invisalign aligners are made of a thermoplastic called SmartTrack®. SmartTrack contains no BPS, latex, or gluten, so it’s safe for individuals with allergies as well as pregnant people.
What types of alignment issues can Invisalign treat?
At Novato Family Dental Care, the team uses Invisalign to correct various alignment issues, including:
You might also benefit from treatment with Invisalign if you have spaces between your teeth.
What does treatment with Invisalign involve?
At Novato Family Dental Care, Invisalign treatment begins with an in-office consultation.
First, your provider takes X-rays to assess the alignment of your teeth and jaw. If they determine you can benefit from treatment, your provider scans your mouth digitally.
They upload your scans to a computer-aided design (CAD) program that makes it easy to develop a custom orthodontic treatment plan. When developing the treatment plan, your provider maps the step-by-step movements of your teeth and jaw. Then, they explain the process to you and send your scans to an Invisalign laboratory.
The Invisalign laboratory uses your scans to design and manufacture your first set of custom orthodontic aligners.
During Invisalign treatment, you return to Novato Family Dental Care every two or three weeks. At each check-up, you change into a new set of Invisalign aligners. Each new set places slightly different pressure on your teeth, enhancing their position.
How long does treatment with Invisalign take?
The length of time that Invisalign takes depends on various factors, including the alignment issues being addressed and your commitment to your provider’s treatment plan. That said, most people can stop wearing their aligners within 12-18* months, but it may take longer.
Be patient, follow your provider’s instructions, and make sure to attend each of your appointments at Novato Family Dental Care.
